Mike is a Chartered engineer (CEng IET), and qualified online education specialist (MA ODE (OU)). He provides online tutoring and consultancy for a wide range of systems and technologies including RTOS (having written the MACv2 code for ChibiOS), Linux, IoT, physical and virtual networks and security.

Previously Mike worked for the Met Office in the Observations R&D team, for Lightning Detection and Radar, and was an Associate Lecturer for the OU, working on courses relating to IT and robotics.

Prior to this, he had been working in the IT industry since 1987, with experience of all sizes of computers, from mainframes to smartcards. His main focus has been on server programming, with security a key area.

Mike is an enthusiastic supporter of free and open source software, and has made contributions to a number of projects, including ChibiOS (MACv2), Regina Rexx (including minor fixes for RexxUtil and Rexx/CURL packages and a service wrapper for Rexx on Windows), cURL, libssh2, Magic Mail Monitor, ePiX, PuTTY, OpenSSL and vsftpd.
